Cyprus Airways is opening up two more of Europe's big cities for year-round travel from the island. The new Larnaca-Rome route is scheduled to begin on December 11, 2026, with two flights a week during the winter, operating every Monday and Friday on a year-round basis. Munich follows less than a week later, giving travellers from Larnaca (LCA) fresh options for both a winter city break and mainland connections. Here is what has been announced, and what it means if you are flying from Cyprus. This reflects reporting as of 2026, and airlines change routes and schedules, so always confirm on the airline or airport site before you book.

What Cyprus Airways announced

According to Cyprus Mail, the airline confirmed the two new capitals on a Wednesday, alongside an extra frequency to Crete. Cyprus Airways will expand its year-round network from Larnaca with new direct services to Rome and Munich from December, while also increasing its weekly flights to Heraklion from late October, the airline announced on Wednesday.

The Rome service comes first. On the Munich side, the new direct service between Larnaca (LCA) and Munich (MUC) will launch on 17 December 2026, with flights operating twice weekly, every Thursday and Sunday, also on a year-round basis.

Both routes run through the winter and continue all year, which matters for anyone who wants a reliable direct link rather than a summer-only seasonal flight.

On the Heraklion increase, Cyprus Inform reported that the airline will introduce a third weekly service between Larnaca and Heraklion on October 28, 2026, with an additional Wednesday flight. The carrier framed this as more flexibility for Cyprus–Crete travellers.

Why Rome and Munich matter for Cyprus travellers

For a small island, direct year-round links to major European hubs are the difference between a simple hop and a multi-leg journey. Munich in particular is a large connecting airport, and Cyprus Airways positioned it that way. Both cities are highly attractive for leisure and business travel, and their addition gives our passengers even greater choice and flexibility throughout the year, noted Thanos Pascalis, CEO of Cyprus Airways.

Rome deepens an existing Italian focus for the carrier. According to Cyprus Mail, the new Larnaca-Rome route is scheduled to begin on December 11, 2026, with two flights a week during the winter, operating every Monday and Friday on a year-round basis, and the new service will further strengthen Cyprus Airways' presence in Italy, where the airline already operates a year-round route between Cyprus and Milan, as well as a seasonal summer connection to Venice.

Wherever you end up going, it pays to sort the basics early: book somewhere to stay while the good-value places are still free, and hire a car if you are heading somewhere the trains do not reach.

How this fits the wider Cyprus Airways network

These additions are part of a steady year-round build-out rather than a one-off. With the latest expansion, Cyprus Airways notes that its scheduled network would cover 15 destinations, providing passengers with more options for direct air connections across Europe and the Middle East.

The airline set out the rest of its European map alongside the news. The expansion further strengthens Cyprus Airways' growing European network, which also includes year-round scheduled services to Paris, Milan, Athens and Heraklion, alongside seasonal destinations including Barcelona, Venice and popular Greek islands.

There is a Middle East dimension too, which is useful if you are connecting through Larnaca in either direction. Cyprus Airways also maintains a network in the Middle East, with daily scheduled flights to Tel Aviv, Beirut and Dubai, and these Middle Eastern services provide connections to the airline's European network through Larnaca, serving both tourism and business travellers throughout the year.

What to do before you book

No fares have been published in these announcements, so treat any price you see online as subject to change and check directly with Cyprus Airways. Note the different launch dates — Rome from 11 December and Munich from 17 December 2026 — and the specific operating days, because two flights a week means less flexibility than a daily service if your dates are fixed. If Munich is a connection rather than your final stop, confirm your onward timings before committing.

FAQ

When do the new Larnaca–Rome and Larnaca–Munich flights start?

Cyprus Airways has said the new Larnaca-Rome route is scheduled to begin on December 11, 2026, with two flights a week during the winter, operating every Monday and Friday on a year-round basis. Cyprus Airways described the pair as part of a deliberate all-season strategy, with Pascalis saying the routes strengthen the connectivity of the airline and Cyprus with Europe and confirm its commitment to building a sustainable network from Cyprus that operates throughout the year.

Is Cyprus Airways changing anything to Greece as well?

Yes. Alongside the new capitals, the airline will introduce a third weekly service between Larnaca and Heraklion on October 28, 2026, with an additional Wednesday flight. The carrier already runs year-round services to Athens and Heraklion plus seasonal summer routes to selected Greek islands.

How many destinations will Cyprus Airways serve after this?
